Room Size: 156 sqft

Laura Wilson is a phenomenon. She works three days a week for the NHS, raises three young boys with her partner, they run a small-holding with rare breeds, sheep, geese, chickens and pigs, they grown their own fruit and veg, Laura can sheer her sheep and tan their skins, she works with the Kennel Club, and she offers non-surgical skin rejuvenation treatments from the Rubislaw Den North Skene Business Centre!

“I’m very dedicated to the NHS and its ethos,’ says Laura ‘but I was looking to establish my own business that tapped into my surgical skills and clinical knowledge. I launched Aesthete Associates in July 2024, moving to Skene’s Rubislaw Den property in December. I’ve previously rented therapy space in the city centre but parking was a hassle for everyone. The heating and hot water took an age to work. The room wasn’t just mine, and it didn’t lock, so I had to pack and unpack each day, carry equipment to my car at night and I couldn’t personalise the space. Looking back, it didn’t work.’

‘I discovered SBC through a simple Google search,’ continues Laura. ‘The main thing Skene offered was flexibility. This is my room only and my calendar is open 7 days a week, meaning I can offer treatments at evenings/weekends. My room and the building are secure, so I can decorate, invest in expensive skin care products and machinery (such as Dermaforce and Phototherapy equipment) and business insurance is straightforward with lockable premises.’

‘Another key point is the SBC staff want me to be here, they’re welcoming. I ask a question and I usually receive an answer within an hour. I’m quite a vibey person, and my NHS mindset is collaboration rather than competition, so I feel at home here. I’m very independent operating from SBC, I can establish my own brand identity and use the products/equipment I think are best. The building is pristine, and well-maintained too. SBC take care of everything except the expertise delivered in this room. Plus it’s a bigger therapy room and far cheaper than my first venue, which is unbelievable. The money I’ve saved in rent I’ve invested in a new website that launches soon. I also use the kitchen, my clients use the waiting room and reception service, and I now feel safe leaving after dark as the property is well lit with a secure entrance.”

Laura offers personalised non-surgical skin rejuvenation through botox, bio-stimulators, dermal fillers, cryotherapy, chemical peels, radio frequency and micro-needling in a Medi-Spa environment.

“The Rubislaw address is in a lovely leafy, quiet area,’ adds Laura. ‘It’s discreet, ideal for skin rejuvenation treatments. At the moment I feel I’ve won the lottery establishing myself here. I’m learning all the time, I’m growing into my space and my business. I feel in control and love delivering change for my clients.”
