Marinela Dema moved to Scotland ready to set up a business building on her skincare expertise gained working in Albania, Italy and Turkey. She specialises in microdermabrasion, derma planing, chemical peels, facials, micro-needling and laser hair removal.
“I knew I could find a flat in Aberdeen so my priority was finding the right office rental space,’ says Marinela. ‘One of the first people I met in the Granite City was Maeghan from Skene Business Centres when I undertook a viewing of the Gilcomston Park properties in Rosemount. My sister-in-law and baby nephew accompanied me. When I walked into 50 Gilcomston Park I felt at home, and my nephew was grinning from ear to ear. He was so animated and happy, I took it as a sign!’
‘Professionally, the offices were well presented, they were very central and in a good area, offered easy parking for clients, there was a reception and I was made to feel welcome. Coming from overseas I didn’t have knowledge of how things work here in business, so the serviced package from SBC, with all amenities included (from gas and wifi to cleaning) helped me budget and focus on building my business rather than understanding local electricity companies! I didn’t want my skincare business housed in a room within a shop or a spa, so SBC’s neutral professional setting appealed to me.”
Marinela ended up finding her personal apartment accommodation through Skene House too, renting with the company over several years. Professionally, she operated out of her single therapy room at Gilcomston Park, Rosemount till a recent increase in her client portfolio and investment into additional skincare machinery led her to request a second room.
“It was easy to approach Maeghan when I wished to expand due to the growth of the demand of customers for laser hair removal and skin rejuvenation,’ explains Marinela. ‘The two therapy rooms I’m in now were just being built, so I could request changes and details, such as pure white walls, a cupboard being removed, and a natural grey laminate flooring being installed rather than carpeting. I’m just settling into the rooms now, adding mirrors, flowers and finishing touches, but my clients love them. It’s a very intimate space, my customers know these rooms are just for them.”
Marinela also taps into the other facilities available at Gilcomston Park, Rosemount, such as the reception staff who buzz her clients in, the kitchen for lunch preparation, and she appreciates the break-out room as it’s a place to socialise with other tenants, plus a place to eat lunch as she prioritises keeping her treatment rooms in mint condition.’
“I describe SBC Gilcomston as safe, professional clean, quiet and calm. It works for me. My plan is to keep growing, keep studying, add more services and expand.’
